Esports
Here to register for Esports? Great, you’re in the right place.
Video games may not be a physical sport like soccer or baseball, but they still contain plenty of competition and intensity, so we call them Esports.
Think your child gets too much screen time at home? Have them come share that screen time with friends here at the YMCA. Our Esports space is open to the sweatiest of try-hards, and to those just looking for a casual gaming sesh. Expect to improve your skills, and have a great time.
Listed below are all of our Esport programs and their descriptions. Check them out and maybe you’ll find one for you!
Janesville Highschool Esports - WIHESA
The YMCA of Northern Rock County is in search for Highschool gamers ready to compete!
Any Janesville Highschool students are welcome to join our teams. This Winter season we are playing in the WIHESA (Wisconsin Highschool Esports Association) league composed of schools all across the state.
Rocket League and Fortnite are the games of focus this winter. There will be one Varsity team and multiple JV teams for each game. Anyone who does not make the teams will be substitutes and participate in practices.
Fortnite teams are in a build trios format.
Schedule
Preseason/Tryouts: Dec. 9th – 13th
Regular Season: Dec. 16th – Feb. 14th
Playoffs:
Rocket League Feb. 18th & 20th
Fortnite State Championship Feb. 26th
WIHSEA State Championship March 1st
Cost/Fee: $115 per Player each season. All participants will receive a team jersey!
Teams will be lead by our esports coach Brad Onsgard. Brad has Collegiate experience in FPS Esports such as Valorant, PUBG, and Rainbow Six Siege.

Minecraft Mondays - Winter
Minecraft Mondays
Welcome to NRC Esports’ first Minecraft Program! Does your child enjoy playing Minecraft? If so, then they’ll love playing it on Gaming PC in our Esports Lab with kids their age.
Minecraft is a sandbox game that fuels creativity and collaboration.
Each Monday for one hour we will be learning by playing Java Edition Minecraft on our computers. Participants will NOT be able to use a controller when playing, and instead learn how to use mouse and keyboard to control.
Kids will be able to choose which game modes (creative, survival, hardcore, etc.) they want to play, but group play will be encouraged.
Personally, Minecraft is the first game which got me into gaming, lead me to so many in-person and online friend groups, improved my computer technical skills as a teenager, and helped me grow my brain.
Dates: January 13 – March 3
Mondays 6:00pm – 7pm

YMCA Fortnite League - Winter
Description: Don’t let the winter keep you trapped gaming at home, come play video games at the YMCA! Winter Fortnite League will be composed of practices 2-3 times a week where kids can game, socialize, and improve! Practices will consistent of custom lobbies, mini-games, ranked/unranked lobbies, and anything Fortnite related with friends.
On Game/Event days we’ll have in-house tournaments, compete in Fortnite Cups, and grind out ranked.
All equipment is provided and all practices will be held in the Esports Lab at the Janesville YMCA.
Join us this Winter for some Fortnite fun!
