FREE for youth members, this 15-minute Youth Fitness Orientation (YFO) is required to gain independent Walking Track access at our Janesville branch. Completed by Trained Fitness Staff, youth will be oriented to walking track guidelines as well as safe and appropriate usage. In addition, youth must understand and agree to required Walking Track etiquette and guidelines. Age restrictions apply.

Successful completion will provide youth with the age-appropriate colored wristband to ensure their safety as they enjoy the benefits of the Y.

  • Youth Fitness Orientation (YFO): Required to gain Fitness Center access, this 15-minute orientation is specific to cardio, circuit and a variety of functional equipment found on the Fitness Floor. Completed by Trained Fitness Staff, youth will be shown how to safely operate pieces and understand required Fitness Center etiquette and guidelines. Age restrictions apply.
  • Youth Strength Test (YST): Required to gain Weight Room access, this 15-minute orientation is specific to free weights and any additional functional equipment found in our Weight Room areas. Completed by Trained Fitness Staff, youth must demonstrate the ability to properly load weights, safely navigate a variety of equipment and understand the required Weight Room etiquette and guidelines. Age restrictions apply.

This program is designed to provide youth athletic conditioning in a small group setting – the perfect opportunity for your child to learn proper form and safe body mechanics in a supervised environment.

Each 45-minute class will include a warm up and intentional movements designed to train youth in three fundamental sports skills:

  1. Agility (rapid whole-body movements)
  2. Speed (ability to move all or part of the body as quickly as possible)
  3. Endurance (sustain specific activity for prolonged period of time)

Class will wrap up with a cool down.

Will utilize multiple age and skill appropriate equipment.

Whether a youth athlete or new to fitness this is a great program for all kids as strength training has numerous lifelong benefits including improved muscular fitness, better bone density, decreased risk of injury as well as an overall improvement in athletic performance.
