Welcome to the 135 Community Team hub — your home base for helping shape what’s next for the YMCA of Northern Rock County as we celebrate 135 years of impact in 2027.
Each month, you’ll be invited to one in-person meeting, complete simple activities called Asks, and share feedback to help guide future improvements for the Janesville and Milton YMCAs.
No membership required. No cost to participate. Asks are flexible to your schedule. You can join the team any time throughout 2026.
Next Meeting: Saturday, July 11, 9 – 10AM at the Janesville YMCA
A Quick Word at the Halfway Mark!
Five months in. You’ve toured, attended, posted, and pulled people through the door — and your feedback is already shaping real planning decisions. Thank you for showing up. Check out the reports on this page.
Some of the strongest moments in our 135-year story have come from partnerships with schools, employers, civic groups, faith communities and neighbors. This month, help us see who’s missing from the table. We need your help reaching outside the Y. Who should the Y be working with that we’re not? The Y can’t serve this community alone — and we’re not meant to.
The Ask
This month, we would like you to have a conversation with someone in your circle (mom, adult, child, co-worker, neighbor). If you’re up for 2 conversations – awesome! Share with them what you now know about the Y – our financial assistance program, Milton’s undeveloped green space and childcare offerings, Janesville’s food programming, and senior programming.
Ask them these questions and report back:
- What organizations, businesses, or groups are you part of — or close to — here in Rock County?
- Do you see a natural fit between those and the Y — something the Y could be doing together?
- Who’s the right person there to start a conversation with? Are you willing to share their contact information?
BONUS – If you’re able to bring them to the Y, they’ll have the best idea of what/who we are, so if you can bring them in for a class, check out Yoga on the Square together, or just come to walk the track – please do!
Can’t get to the Y in June? We get it. It’s a busy season. If you’ll be at an event, meeting or outing this month, can you set aside 10 minutes to talk about what you’re doing with the 135 Team and what the Y is building toward? Then gather feedback on those questions.
Submit your feedback by July 10.
*A Y staffer, board member or 135 project leader may review these answers for future partnership considerations. Making a connection does not mean a financial ask.
135 Project Updates
We’ll keep this section current with news, but also so you can see how feedback connects to action with decision-makers.
What we heard
We’ll post key takeaways here after the March 7 meeting.
